? These

are very important questions facing the

timber industry today. When dealing with

forested land, foresters and landowners

alike need to decide how the resource

will be managed. Some may opt to simply

harvest the forest for immediate use.

Others may formulate a plan to preserve

and manage the natural resources in the

forest.

erosion:

when soil or rocks

are worn away by water,

wind, or ice.

nonrenewable resources:

natural resources that are

not replenished over time;

these exist in fixed, limited

supplies.

renewable resources:

natural resources that are

replenished naturally over

time.

sustainable:

able to be kept

at current levels.
