solution which is engineered to custom-
ers’ specific application requirements.
Significantly, the company is able to not
only address the crushing plant require-
ments, but can also provide product solu-
tions for wet plant needs including slurry
pumps, hydrocyclones, rubber hoses,
dewatering screens and slurry valves.
The Weir Group PLC acquired Trio
Engineered Products®, an OEM of crush-
ing and separation equipment for the
mining and aggregates markets in 2014.

The extensive range of Trio equip-

either a standard or custom crushing solu-
tion directly from the Trio manufacturing
facilities. The Trio product range includes
grizzly feeders, apron feeders, belt feed-
ers, gyratory crushers, jaw crushers, cone
crushers, horizontal impact and vertical
shaft impact crushers, circular motion
screens, horizontal incline screens and
complete material handling solutions.
Made in Africa for African conditions
One of Pilot Crushtec International’s major marketing propositions
has been that its products are built in Africa to meet African con-
ditions. Judging by the sales of its modular crushing and screening
plants into the more remote areas of the continent, this continues
to hold true. Its relationship with a large copper and cobalt mining
operation in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Katanga province
serves to confirm this claim.
“The customer has, for almost a decade, been using Pilot Modular
equipment under the harshest imaginable conditions and insists
on using our products on account of their durability even under
extreme circumstances,” says CEO Sandro Scherf.
The products exported to the region include no fewer than five
Pilot Modular MC130 heavy-duty cone crushers, a Pilot Modular
MJ3042 single toggle jaw crusher, two Pilot Modular DWS4824 dewa-
tering screens and two DD7215 screen boxes. Scherf explains that
the quality of Pilot Modular products is just one part of the equation
as service and support are key to the customer’s needs, irrespective
of the 2 000 km separating supplier and end user.
“Personal contact with the customer, especially when it comes
to technical input, is more important than ever before and the mine
appreciates the regular on-site presence of our sales engineers. Spare
parts availability is also a crucial factor and we ensure that there is
always a stock of key components at the mine,” he says.

Hyundai earthmoving equipment, available exclusively in
Southern Africa from HPE Africa, encompasses backhoe
loaders which have been well received by the local market.
“The robust H930s backhoe loader series is particularly well
liked by businesses that need smaller machines, without
having to make a substantial capital investment in large
excavators and loaders,” says Alex Ackron, HPE Africa’s man-
aging director. “Hyundai backhoe loaders, with a reputation
for efficient performance, low operating costs and minimal
maintenance requirements, are also popular with plant hire
companies.
