in Scotland have access to superfast

broadband. As part of the £2.5 billion UK

down around 1,850km of fiber optic cables,

and installed 3,500 new cabinets.

BT Scotland director Brendan Dick, visiting

Hawick-basedcompany Emtelle, producers

of 29millionmeters of cable duct for BT, said:

“Today marks a high point in Scotland’s

development as one of Europe’s leading

nations for high speed communications.

Scotland’s fiber infrastructure is growing

rapidly, with another 400,000 premises to be

passedbeforeour commercial programme

is complete.

“In addition to the direct benefits of fiber

for Scottish businesses, the deployment

is good news for our supply chain, with

Emtelle being a great example of a local

company that’s thriving [through] its

support of this enormous undertaking.”

Scotland’s fiber optic broadband is

expected to cover 85 percent of the

country by the end of 2015, and 95 percent

by the end of 2017.
