• MRI is the modality of choice
• With 3T the resolution is far better than with 1.5T
• Usefull in assessing the mesorectal invasion
• Stratifying of T3 tumours
• The use of an endorectal probe is not necessary
• The MRI protocol should not exceed 25 minutes
