CRUCIBLE pair Emma Brown and Simon
Purvey took the top player of the season
awards at the Newbury Regional League’s
finals night at Shaw Social Club.
The former took the Ladies A prize after a
season that saw her win the singles, the
Captain’s Cup and a share of the mixed threes
title.
The respective B Division awards went to
singles and pairs winner Vikki Andrews and
Graham Snookes, who won the threes and
mixed threes pairs and reached the semi-finals
of the singles before bowing out to David Gage.
Crucible’s Mike Page won the men’s singles
after beating OLA A’s Jason Heaver in the
final.

THE Plough's Donna Racey checked out in
20 darts and Donna Richardson with a 62
out-shot in their 4-1 win over White Hart
that took them to the top of the Ladies
Division of Thatcham Town Friendly
League’s summer programme.
Taste of England B are a point adrift after
playing an extra game, after their 4-1 win at
King’s Head B, but their men’s team head their
division after a 7-3 win at King’s Head B where
skipper Richard Rawlings hit a
maximum 180 and a 135 check-out, Jordan
Rawlings a 17 dart leg and Jason Heaver an 11-
dart leg and maximum 180.
Taste of England A’s Nigel Allen recorded a
105 check out in a 7-3 victory over Beenham
that moved them into second place, 11 points
behind the leaders but with a game in hand,
and White Hart dropped back to third after a
6-4 defeat at The Plough
Richard Rawlings leads the men's captains
division by a point from Steve Hall and Judy
Cook and Donna Racey top the ladies list.

TEAM Kennet Triathletes claimed
nine of the top 50 placings in
Sunday’s Beale Beastie Triathlon at
Beale Park.
Cameron Craik led the contingent
in fifth place in an event that
covered a 400 metre open water lake
swim, a 20 kilometre bike ride and a
final 5km run around the Thames-
side park.
He clocked a time of 1 hour 05
minutes 16.6 seconds behind overall
winner Jack Shayler of the South
Central Academy in 1:01.31.
Bart Kuijten was seventh overall
of the 163 finishers and second
veteran 40 in 1:07.55 with Steve
Robinson ninth and leading 50-50
runner in 1:08.46.
Daniel Wright was next home in
14th spot, and completing the Team
Kennet contingent were John
Marriott 21st, Phil Cowhig 34th,
Martin Colston 37th, Roger Davis
38th, GrahamMuse 40th, Dean

NEWBURY AC’s Matt Green was ‘king of the hill’ after wining the
annual Hurstbourne five-mile race.
He was the first runner to reach the summit of Hurstbourne Hill and
went on to claim the overall victory in a time of 30 minutes 34 seconds,
ahead of a trio of Overton Harriers.
Newbury’s Catherine Tuttle was
third in the women’s race.
Green promptly went on to
finish second in the Shinfield 10k
in a personal best time of 34
minutes 16 seconds, with Steve
Barnes 12th overall and the leading
veteran 40 runner while second
claim athlete Sophie Crumly won
the women’s event for Reading AC.

MAISIE Jeger won the
Somerset Schools Multi-events
Championship at her own
Millfield School, improving over
the five events to record a
winning score of 2,614 points in
the junior girls age group.
She was 13th after the opening
75m hurdles after clocking 13.3
seconds, rising to eighth after an
8,76 metre shot putt and sixth
following a 1.39m high jump, rising
another two places after clearing
4.56m in the long jump, and surg-
ing into the golden slot with her 2
minutes 30.98 seconds in the 800m.
She will now represent Somerset
Schools at the area championships
at Yeovil in June.
BUCKLEBURY teams sealed two promotion
spots as the Newbury Badminton League
campaign draws to a close.
Their A team in Mixed Division Three claimed
their place with a 6-3 win over Kennet C with
Olivia May and Andy McDonald, Sarah Lewing-
ton and Alan Arnold and Cara Brims and John
Holloway all winning twice, but all losing to
Kennet’s unbeaten Durga Limba and Tom Hunt.
Also making sure of runners-up prizes was
Bucklebury’s B team in Men’s Division Three
after their r9-0 defeat of a two-man Downlands C.
Men’s Division One champions Downlands A
completed their season with a perfect record from
12 matches after defeating Shaw A 7-2 with David
Irvine and Barry Garnham unbeaten, and Shaw B
rounded off their second division programme
with an 8-1 defeat of second to bottom Newbury B
in which Paul Olive and Richard Elwell and Pete
Schofield and Grant Lawrence were unbeaten
with Simon Jukes and Simon Suggate picking up
Newbury’s consolation.
Newbury B’s 5-4 defeat of Shaw B could not save
them from a bottom two finish in Mixed Division
One, despite Claire Struthers Semple and Danesh
Raja claiming the vital point.
Shaw B also lost 6-3 to Newbury A, despite Lucy
Burton and John Palmer remaining unbeaten.
