Enhancing public safety

Coordinate the review of new land use development projects with both the Fire Department and Police

Department to minimize fire/safety hazards in the physical environment. Use the Planning Permit process to

enforce the Fire Code as well as Community Policing through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles

Coordinate the review of new land use development with outside agencies responsible for overseeing flood

safety and hazard avoidance

Administer the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) to insure that new development meets environmental

health standards related to noise, air quality, soil contamination, etc

Protecting the environment

Administer the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) to insure that new development will have a minimal

impact upon the environment through project design measures

Review projects for consistency with Santa Clara Valley Habitat Plan conditions and collect Habitat Plan implement

fees and transfer fee revenues to the Habitat Agency

Implement the City's General Plan to achieve long-term goals for a sustainable community

Maintaining fiscal responsibility

Review potential General Plan land use changes for potential fiscal impacts

Provide a streamlined entitlement process for economic development priority projects

Operate the permit entitlement process on a cost-recovery or near cost-recovery basis

Enable community participation in the planning process, including notifying all property owners within a certain

distance of proposed development projects and staffing the public information counter
