Mr. M. E. Knight seconded the adoption

of the Report.

Mr. H. G. Morris having spoken,

the

President put the resolution adopting the

Report, and it was passed unanimously.

The meeting having gone into Committee,

the following resolution of which notice had

been given and had been circulated amongst

the members of the Society, was moved by

Mr. A. E. R. MacCabe and seconded by

Mr. J. Baldwin Murphy, and was discussed

by the meeting :

Resolved : " This meeting is of opinion

that the Council of the Society should

consider whether further statutory powers

should be sought to ensure the better

discipline of the Solicitors' profession."

The President having wound up the dis–

cussion the resolution was passed

nem com.

Mr. O hUadhaigh (Vice-President) having

taken the chair, on the motion of Mr. Charles

St. G. Orpen, seconded by Mr. T. G. Quirke,

a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the

President with acclamation.

The President having returned thanks, the

meeting terminated.

THE PRESIDENT

The Council elected, on the 2nd December,_

Mr. Thomas W. Delany, of Longford, to be"

President of the Society for the ensuing

twelve months. The newly-elected President

was admitted in Michaelmas Sittings, 1891.

He was elected a member of the Council in

1925,

and was a Vice-President of

the

Society for 1930-31.

THE VICE-PRESIDENTS

The Council has elected Mr. Henry St. J.

Blake, of Galway,

and Mr. Patrick F.

O'Reilly, of Dublin, to be Vice-Presidents of

the Society for the ensuing twelve months.

OBITUARY

MR. THOMAS L. ROOKE, Solicitor, died on

the 2nd November, 1937, at his residence,

6 Vesey Place, Dun Laoghaire.

Mr. Rooke was

admitted

in Trinity

Sittings, 1893, and practised as a member of

the firm of Rooke and Rooke, at 6 Merrion

Square, Dublin, up to 1932, when he retired.

Mr. J. Gustavus Wheatley, Solicitor, died

on the 6th November, 1937, at 12 Merton

Road, Dublin.

Mr.

\Vheatley was admitted in Hilary

Sittings, 1883, and practised at 41 Nassau

Street, Dublin, up to 1915, when he retired.

MR. FREDERICK W. WYNNE, Solicitor, died

on 4th November,

1937,

at Glenbrook,

Worthing, Sussex.

Mr. Wynne served his apprenticeship with

his brother, the Right Hon. Sir Henry A.

Wynne, P.C., LL.D., ex-Chief Crown Solicitor

for Ireland ; was admitted in Trinity Sittings,

1896, and practised formerly in partnership

with his brother and later by himself, under

the style of Wynne & Wynne, at Cork, up

to 1924, when he retired.

APPOINTMENT

Mr. John F. Smyth, Solicitor, Castle-

blayney,

has

been

appointed

County

Registrar for County Monaghan, in room of

Mr. Henry Murplty, retired.

LAND REGISTRY

The

following memorandum has been

received from the Registrar, with a request

for its communication to members of the

Society :

Counsel's Opinion on First Registrations and

Applications to Cancel "Equity Notices."

The Registrar requests that the following

practice be adhered to on applications for

first registration, or for cancellation of equity

notices, in which Counsel's opinion is relied

on either in substitution for or in modifica–

tion of an official examination of a title.
