Winter 2018 Newsletter of the FCIAAO

PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATION COMMITTEE NEWS

Tracy S. Drake, CAE,

ASA, RES, AAS, CFE

As many of you have read in previous newsletters, the IAAO Procedural

Rules were amended over the past year (or so) to offer more flexibility and

international appeal. Some of the changes included: educational alter-

natives to the Bachelor’s degree requirement, and educational equiva-

lencies and demonstration appraisal report waivers to associations and

institutions such as the Appraisal Institute, the American Society of Apprais-

ers and the University of British Columbia. As a result, the Professional Des-

ignation Program has experienced unprecedented success.

As indicated in the following table, the total number of candidates and

designees has grown steadily since 2014. Specifically, the increase in CAE

and RES candidates/designees is remarkable, and my guess is the new demonstration appraisal

report waiver rule is making those designations more attractive (we’ve already had a few in

Florida take advantage of the change). And the much-anticipated Mass Appraisal Specialist

(MAS) designation is now a designation option.
