The Martian
is one
of the year's best
flicks, and a film that
lends itself to repeat
viewing. It's also a
spectacular looking
Blu-ray disc. And now

Extended Edition
that adds 10
minutes of footage unseen in the
theatrical version. There's nothing
major, but if you know the film, you'll
appreciate the extra bits and scene
extensions. In this instance it's the
new bonus features that make this
release worth the double dip. A new
documentary feature,
Investigating
Mars
, explores NASA's plans for a
real journey to the red planet, with
science and engineering experts
discussing what's involved in
our next great leap to the stars.

Film buffs and lovers
of old Hollywood can
look forward to several
classics remastered in HD
on Sept 7. Frank Capra's
Lost Horizon
(1937)
receives a 4K transfer
from the original negative,
with a long lost snippet
of unseen footage also restored.
And Sidney Lumet's gripping Cold
War thriller
Fail-Safe
(1964) and
Tennessee
Williams'
Suddenly, Last
Summer
(1959)
also make a
welcome addition
to the Blu-ray
classics range.
Horror fans get an early
Halloween treat when
The
Amityville Horror Collection
hits JB shelves on Sept 29.
This 4-disc set includes
The
Amityville Horror
(1979),
Amityville II: The Possession
(1982), and
Amityville 3
(1983).
Extras include a 3-D version
of the third film, cast and crew
interviews, audio commentaries,
featurettes and documentaries.
