he 1989 USD volleyball team came

to

a disappointing end with a record of 2-

26. The teams record shows many

losses, but does not reflect team improve–

ment. The Toreras may have lost many, but

none of the games were blowouts. Some of

this years competition includes SDSU, UC!,

Mississippi, and Missouri.

This years team returned six players from

1988. Cindy Sildorf, the only senior on this

years team led the Toreras with twenty seven

aces, and was the second highest in kills with

171. Cindy feels "We are so young and Inexpe–

rienced. We lost five seniors from last year

. . . There is, however, some good young

ta!-

+."

Head Coach John Martin was "disappointed

be

cause we didn't win more, but I'm pleased with

the improvement of the individuals and team

play

Other returning players include Angie Rais,

who had the most amount of kills (243), Su–

zanne LeSatz, Kathleen Hayes, Kelly Logsdon,

and Vanessa Rothe.

The five freshman who joined the squad

bring with them a lot of talent. Kristi Harris,

an all league selection In high school, and

Shannon Mutch did the setting for the 1989

Toreras. Heather Dalley, an all-ClF

lection in high school, Maria Rickard, a sec–

ond team All-Selection CIF(6A), and Andrea

Burns will take position as hitters on this

years team. Their outlook and summary of

the season is "We all got along really well,

and learned from each others background. We

definitely have potential."

Toreros, Angie Rais and Cindy Silldorff, go to the heights to block

a score from St. Mary's.
