and adopted.

Certificates.

Applications by two Solicitors for renewals

of their Certificates were considered, and both

were granted.

Law Clerks.

A memorial from a Law Clerk for a modified

preliminary examination was considered, and

it was resolved that the application be not

opposed.

Land Commission.

A letter was read from the Law Clerks'

Society suggesting that the Council should

request the Land Commission

to have a

telephone call board in the hall of 24 Upper

Merrion Street, upon which the telephone

number of any Solicitor desiring to speak

from his office to his assistant at the Land

Commission might be

recorded.

It was

decided to comply with the suggestion.

Resident Magistrates.

A Bill, which Mr. O'Shee, M.P., intends to

introduce next Session, was submitted for the

approval' of the Council, the object of which

is to limit the office of Resident Magistrate to

District Inspectors of the first-class, practising

Barristers, and practising Solicitors.

It was

resolved to approve of the principle of the

Bill, and to communicate with the Bar

Council with a view to joint action in support

of it.

Examinations.

The report of the Court of Examiners,

giving the results of the October Preliminary

and Intermediate Examinations, was sub

mitted. The results appear in this GAZETTE.

The late Mr. Edward Fitzgerald.

The President referred in feeling terms to

the death of Mr. Edward Fitzgerald, and the

following resolution was passed :—

RESOLVED.—The Council of the Incor

porated Law Society of Ireland has heard

with deep regret of the death of Mr. Edward

Fitzgerald, a former President of

the

Society, and for many years an active

member of the Counci1 , who took a deep

interest in the work of the Society and in

the welfare of the profession.

The Council desire to convey to Mrs.

FitzGerald their sympathy in her bereave

ment.

It was further resolved, as a mark of

respect to the memory of the late Mr.

Fitzgerald, that having transacted only

such of the business as was of an urgent

character,

the Council should stand ad

journed.

Half-Yearly Accounts.

Cheques were ordered in discharge of the

Half-yearly Accounts passed by the Finance

Committee.

Annual Report.

The draft Annual Report of the. Council

was considered and adopted.

MEETINGS of the Council will be held upon

the following dates :—
