The Court of Examiners have awarded a

Gold Medal to Maurice W. B. O'Connor,

Silver Medals

to William S. S. Boxwell,

Patrick R. Boyd and Thomas Campbell, and

Special Certificates to Owen Binchy, Thomas

D. Cotton, William E. Chapman and Arthur

Beaumont.

Twenty-two candidates attended ; eighteen

passed ;

four were postponed.

Findlater Scholarship.

THE Findlater Scholarship for 1913 has been

awarded to Mr. John Mooney, who served his

apprenticeship to Mr. James J. Mooney, of

26 Cook Street, Cork, and obtained first place

and a Gold Medal at the Final Examination,

held in May, 1913.

Solicitors' Apprentices' Debating Society.

THE opening meeting of the 1913-14 Session

was held in the Hall of the Incorporated Law

Society upon the 29th October, 1913, and

was presided ovei by Mr. James Henry (the

President of the Incorporated Law Society).

The President distributed

the following

prizes, awarded for the work of the past

Session,

Oratory. The Law Society's Gold Medal—

Ihe Society's Silver Medal—C. C. Shaw.

The Law Society's Special Certificates—

C. C. Shaw and P. J. Roe.

Legal Debate.

The James Henry Gold

The Society's Silver Medal—H. S. Morris.

Impromptu Speeches. Cussen Gold Medal

and Sir George Roche Prize—A. C. J.

Cox, M.A.

Cussen Silver Medal—M. J. Woulfe.

Composition. Dr. Quirke Essay Prize—

A. C. J. Cox, M.A.

Gerald Byrne Essay Prize—W. J. Fitz-

Gerald.

The Auditor (Mr. Arthur C. J. Cox, M.A.)

read an inaugural address on " The Lawyer

in Literature."

The

first

resolution :—" That

the best

" thanks of the Society be given to the Auditor

" for his address, and that it be printed at the

" expense of the Incorporated Law Society,"

was proposed by Mr. James O'Connor, K.C.,

and seconded by Mr. Patrick J. Brady, M.P.

The second resolution :—" That the Solici-

" tors' Apprentices' Debating Society

is

" worthy of the support of the Solicitors'

" Apprentices of Ireland, the Council of the

" Incorporated Law Society, and the Soli-

" citors' profession," was proposed by Mr.

Glynn, Chairman of the National Insurance

Commissioners, and seconded by Mr. Dudley

White, K.C. ;

and after the President had

addressed

the meeting,

the

proceedings

terminated.

The weekly meetings of

the Debating

Society will be held on Monday evenings at

eight o'clock p.m., in the Antient Concert

Rooms, Great Brunswick Street.

January 5th, 6th and 7th—Final Examina

tion (notice to be lodged in Secretary's

office before 8th December).

January 8th and 9th—Preliminary Exami

nation (notice to be lodged in Secretary's
