David Moore
an IPA Secretary on a Mission
It was with great pleasure that Vice president Sean Hannigan attended the North Wales AGM which was
held in St David’s Park Chester. Sean told Police World
I
was delighted to be invited
to stay with
one of our stalwarts of the IPA David Moore
who at a sprightly 90 was as enthusiastic
as the day he became a member. I was joined
by the Chair of 4 Region Ken Davies and on the
eve of the meeting we all adjourned to a local
restaurant for a bite to eat where we discussed
the forthcoming meeting.
The meeting took place on a rather blustery
and drizzly morning which did not dampen the
atmosphere or mood of the meeting. After
the business of the meeting was concluded
a fabulous meal was had by most of those
who attended.
We were able to speak at length during the
meeting and indeed at lunch about issues which
I am sure were and are at the forefront of most
Branch and Regional meetings: How can we
recruit and retain members and keep those
members we have?
How can we talent spot for the future so that
those long serving officers who in some cases
have kept branches alive can hand over the reins
to other members of the Branch and Region.
We also discussed a number of other issues
which I am sure Ken Davies raised at his recent
Chairs meeting as I am sure did Denis Hunt at
his ASC meeting up at Fox Road.
What struck me most was the dedication of
those folk who year in year out are what I call the
glue which binds our great friendship association
together.
Both David and Ken are great examples of this
and it was refreshing to listen to them speak
about some of their IPA experiences while I was
hosted by them.
I was impressed by just a small selection of
the memorabilia that David had collected
and indeed his National and International
knowledge which has been built up over many
years of service and attendance at National and
International events.
I am pleased to have experienced the friendship
and service through that friendship which I
experienced and I look forward to attending
some more AGMs.
