Furthermore, it is well recognised
that prompt, accurate and sensible
legal advice given at a critical time
can minimise difficulties fo r a
couple encountering problems.
The goodwill, hard work and
dedication of the solicitors working
w i t h in th e Centres i s no t i n
question. However, they have an
impossible work load to carry and
the delays that this causes for their
own clients and indeed fo r the
private practitioners who may be
acting for the other spouse causes
unnecessary hardship.
There i s n o doubt with th e
enac tment o f t h e Jud i c i al
Separation and Family Reform Act
that there will be more and more
people seeking legal advice and aid
through th e scheme and th e
pressures on the service will b e
even greater.
It should also be remembered
that the present scheme i s not
constituted on a statutory basis
even t hough i t ha s been i n
operation for almost nine years.
The proper provision for Legal
Aid Services i s a matter that the
profession should address as the
present arrangement is hopelessly
inadequate to meet the needs of
those entitled.
Yours sincerely,
MURIEL WALLS,
Solicitor,
Family Lawyers Association.
