During 2000, GRID-Arendal supported UNEP and other cooper-

ating partners by producing maps and graphics, assisting in design

and layout, and facilitating publication production.

Baltic 21

To measure the goals set for Baltic Agenda 21 for sustainable

development, two indicator-based assessment reports, "Biennial

Report - 2000" and "Development in the Baltic Sea Region To-

wards the Baltic 21 Goals", were published with close co-opera-

tion between GRID-Arendal and the Baltic 21 Secretariat.

Post Conflict Environmental Assessment in Albania and

Macedonia

During 2000, UNEP continued its investigation (initiated in

1999 in Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia) of the environmental

consequences of the Kosovo conflict by making post-conflict

environmental assessments in Albania and the Former Yugoslav

Republic of Macedonia. GRID-Arendal supported the activities

by producing a total of 30 maps and graphics, which made

these new UNEP Balkans reports highly visual and user-friendly.

GPA Reports

GRID-Arendal worked closely with UNEP/GPA's (Global Pro-

gramme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environ-

ment from Land-based Activities) Coordination Office in The

Hague in the production, design and publication of six Regio-

nal Overviews, two Regional Programmes of Action, and two

global reports of the Joint Group of Experts in the Scientific As-

pects of Marine Environmental Protection (GESAMP).

In addition to the above reports, the secretariat of the GPA

commissioned GRID-Arendal to prepare an overview of report-

ing formats and procedures used by various international and

regional organisations. This together with draft recommenda-

tions for national reporting on GPA was delivered to the expert

group meeting that prepared the first intergovernmental review

of GPA Implementation.
