Treasurer Represents
Section UK
in
Netherlands
In May, Section UK Treasurer,
Fred Boyd, attended the 60th
anniversary celebrations of
Section Netherlands.
Following Section UK’s 60th
Anniversary in Guildford in
2010, Vice President, Mark
Kernohan, had the honour of
handing over the Anniversary
Baton to Section Netherlands
as they were the second IPA
Section to be formed.
Earlier in 2013,
National President,
Tom Crozier, received
an invitation from
Section Netherlands to
join them and
celebrate their 60th
Anniversary
celebrations in the
Hague, Holland.
Fred Boyd was chosen
to represent Section
UK at the event. Fred
said, “
I was honoured
to represent Section
UK and received a warm welcome from President, Johanna Schotanus, and the
3rd International President, Kees Sal. I met with many international guests
including the President from Section Belgium, Serge Kingels. During the
afternoon we were joined by other guests including a representative from the UK
Embassy - Helen Hansen. I also had the privilege of meeting the President of
Section France, Rose Lourme.”
During the gala evening the Anniversary Baton was handed over to Serge Kingels
by Johanna Schotanus. Section Belgium was the third IPA Section to be formed
and will, later this year, hand the Baton over to Section France - who were the
fourth Section to be formed.

Welcome
in
Bamberg
Sean Murphy, Derbyshire branch Secretary, and his wife
Eileen recently visited Bamberg in Bavaria, Germany,
located in Upper Franconia on the river Regnitz, to see their
youngest daughter who is teaching at the University
.
Bamberg is a beautiful small city which holds UNESCO world
heritage status.
Before their trip, in June, Sean contacted the IPA in Bamberg
with a travel request. Shortly after he received an email from
their Secretary, Jürgen Simon, who agreed to meet them.
Jürgen took them on a walking trip of the ‘beautiful medieval
village’, as Jürgen refers to Bamberg. The evening ended up in
the area’s oldest public house, ‘Sternla’ which dates back to
1308, where gifts were exchanged. Sean said,
Jürgen
was
very welcoming, knowledgeable and spoke very good English”
.
Jürgen also took them to Altenberg which has a magnificent
view of Bamberg.
On the night before Sean and Eileen left, Jürgen and his wife
Jutta picked them up at 5pm, when the temperature was still
an astonishing 38
o
C, and took them to Bamberg Garden
Museum. There they joined members from the local IPA
branch for a meal. The couple were treated to a typical
Franconian meal of sausage, radish and special smoked beer
and were made to feel very welcome.
