IPA Have a Ball for
National Police
Memorial Day
Members of the Motorcycle Group and their guests attended a Charity Ball
at The Royal York Hotel, York.
Members were joined by Joe and Sharon
Holness from the National Police Memorial Day (NPMD) in order to raise
funds for the NPMD.
The event consisted of a three course meal followed by a performance by
Mick Miller, from the 1970/80’s show The Comedians. After his performance
he chatted and mingled with the guests.
Section UK Secretary General, Dave Taylor, who organised the event said,
“I
am pleased to announce that the event raised £500 for the IPA’s nominated
charity. Given that we had 30 guests attend, that is a great achievement and
I thank those that supported the event as well as Mick Miller for a superb
performance.”
Joe Holness said,
"The IPA's support is greatly appreciated and is extremely
important to us.”
After the event Dave was asked to organise another Charity Ball for next year.
“It is always nice to receive support from members.”
The prize of a two night half board break at The Palace Hotel, Torquay was
won by new member of the IPA, Tracy Seavers, who said,
“I am over the moon
that I have won the break for my husband Dave and myself. I’ve only just
joined the IPA and so far we have enjoyed a week with the motorcycle group
at their AGM at Gimborn and the Charity Ball was a great place to meet more
IPA members.”
Plans are already being put together to run another event next year at The
Royal York Hotel, 21 June at 7.30pm - for more information visit:

50 Years
of Friendship
9 Region has recognised 24 members who have served the
Association for 50 years or more by holding a special event
to say thank you.
One of the members is Gerry Harvey, from
Hertfordshire branch, who joined in 1962. Gerry said, “
Being in
the IPA and meeting members from other IPA sections has been
the most warm and enjoyable time. You don't only meet IPA
members, but you also meet their families, friends and see
their way of life - it’s a total experience.”
Gerry recalls his IPA story below.
“I was a sergeant, serving at Dalston in 'G' Division, when I joined
the IPA in 1962. A small band of chaps from Hackney formed up
to have meetings. Things were going along nicely, with dinners
and trips. It was whilst on holiday in Spain with my family, in 1970,
that I had my first encounter with the international IPA as I saw a
badge on a German car.
After a few enquiries, I met up with Robert Kaust and his wife who
came from Ashaffenberg. We met up every day and enjoyed each
others company. I invited Robert and his wife to stay with us back
home. I wrote an article about this meeting in our mag' 'Out and
About'. The visit consisted of days out in London, visits and parties
until they left and an invite for us to visit them in Ashaffenberg.
This led on to further exchanges between us.
I have made many friends through the IPA over 50 years - from
members just knocking on my station door that led to years of IPA
trips and parties - to being introduced to members, who became
life long friends.
One friend Shelley Wright, a sergeant from Harlow, had been on
the beat with Arthur Troop before she came down to Essex. We
enjoyed many parties and evening dinners to which Arthur Troop
attended with his wife.
Another special memory was a visit to Koln police headquarters
for the 'Rosen Montag' celebrations. I met up with a member
called John Uebacks - we became friends and exchanged many
visits to Heinsberg Karken, where he lived. We also met up with
police from Wuppertal. We experienced many visits in the area
and went skiing in the Black Forest - all thanks to the IPA.”
