Offshore solutions off the
Angolan coast
Vallourec has announced the provision
of an extensive range of premium
offshore solutions to the CLOV
deepwater oil and gas project operated
by Total E&P in Angola. CLOV is a
cluster of four oil and gas fields located
in the northwest sector of Angola’s
offshore Block 17, with water depths
ranging from 1,100 to 1,400m.
Vallourec will equip 34 subsea wells
with approximately 15,000 tons of
OCTG products featuring VAM
®
premium connections. CLOV is the
fourth development pole in Angola’s
deep offshore Block 17 where Vallourec
is involved, along with Girassol, Dalia
and Pazflor. Two of CLOV’s drilling
rigs also use Vallourec drill strings and
connections, which are dedicated to the
most difficult drilling conditions, such as
highly deviated or extended reach wells.
To secure the transportation of
hydrocarbons to the floating
production, storage and offloading
unit (FPSO), Vallourec has delivered
a total of 28,500 tons – or 200km –
of coated seamless line pipes and
bends to Subsea 7. An additional 2,400
tons of seamless pipes were delivered
by Vallourec for the construction of
the riser towers. The production unit
will have a processing capacity of
160,000 barrels of oil per day and
a storage capacity of approximately
1.8mn barrels.
The solution package provided
by Vallourec includes a wide range
of services, such as the application
of around 150km of anti-corrosion
coating on the pipes and the supply of
approximately 700 hot induction bends.
To ensure flow assurance requirements,
production flow-lines include a pipe-in-
pipe solution. They will be assembled
directly in Angola.

Premium connections to be united under a
single brand called TMK Ultra Premium
TMK, a manufacturer and supplier of
steel pipes for the oil and gas industry,
has united its two premium connections
families, TMK Premium and Ultra, under
a single brand: TMK Ultra Premium
(TMK UP).
Pipes with premium connections
are designed for oil and gas wells
developed in challenging exploration
and production conditions, including
offshore, deep-sea and the Far North
locations, as well as for horizontal and
directional wells.
The products offer high strength,
tightness, excellent bending capacity,
and good resistance to other negative
external factors.
TMK has been developing TMK
Premium, a proprietary line of premium
tubing and casing pipe connections,
since 2004 and said it is now ready to
offer it to customers.
Following the integration of TMK IPSCO,
the company’s American division, in
2008, TMK’s premium connections
product mix was expanded with Ultra
threads designed by American engineers
and used for developing unconventional
hydrocarbon (shale gas and oil sand)
fields in North America.
Over the last few years, TMK’s engineers
on both sides of the Atlantic have
been cooperating closely to develop
new types of connections. In 2011,
TMK’s Orsky machine building plant
started producing pipes with Ultra
premium connections. TMK’s premium
connections were also successfully
certified for compliance with ISO
13679 CAL IV at Oil States Industries
(Aberdeen, UK) and Stress Engineering
Services (Houston, USA) independent
testing centres.
The new TMK UP brand will unite the two
product lines, with previously patented
products retaining their names.
