Workmen's Compensation Act.

A letter was submitted from the County

Registrar for the County and City of Dublin,

Secretary of the Circuit Court Rules Com–

mittee, enclosing proof cop}' of Workmen's

Compensation Act Rules and requesting

consideration of same. These were referred

to a Committee of the Council.

OBITUARY.

MR. JAMES L. RUSSELL, Solicitor, died on

1st April, 1941, near Ballymena, the result

of a motor accident.

Mr. Russell was apprenticed to the late

Mr. James C. Barr, Belfast, was admitted

in Trinity Sittings, 1923, and practised at

110 Roj'al Avenue, Belfast and at Ballymena.

MR. JOSEPH H. MONTGOMERY, Solicitor,

died on 9th April, 1941, in Dublin.

Mr. Montgomery was apprenticed to the

late Mr. William Deverell, Dublin, was

admitted in Hilary Sittings, 1893, and was

Principal of the firm of J. H. Montgomery &

Son up to the year 1936, when he retired.

MR. JOHN WHITE, Solicitor, died on 16th

April, 1941, at his residence, Laeken, Church-

town, Co. Dublin.

Mr. White was apprenticed to the late

Mr. Thomas J. White, Dublin, was admitted

in Hilary Sittings, 1889, and practised at

15 College Green, Dublin.

MR. CHARLES E. MURPHY, Solicitor, died

on 24th April, 1941, at his residence, Ivydene,

Cootehill, Co. Cavan.

Mr. Murphy was apprenticed to the late

Mr. Robert E. Bailie, Castleblayney, was

admitted in" Michaelmas Sittings, 1898, and

practised at Cootehill.

MR. MICHAEL HOWLEY, Solicitor, died on

30th April, 1941, at his residence, Tubber-

curry, Co. Sligo.

Mr. Howley was admitted in Trinity

Sittings, 1891, and practised at Sligo and

Tubbercurry.

LEGAL APPOINTMENT.

Mr. Michael J. C. Keane, Solicitor, Castle-

rea, has been appointed a District Justice at

Carrick-on-Shannon, in room of Mr. J. H.

Rice, who has retired on reaching the age

limit.

EXAMINATIONS

RESULTS.

At the Preliminary Examination for

intending apprentices to Solicitors, held on

9th and 10th April, the following passed

the examination and their names are arranged

in order of merit :

1. John P. M. McNally.

2. Arthur R. J. McDonald.

3. Samuel J. Shaw. "

4. Cornelius Sheehan.

5. Robert S. Kieran.

Thirteen candidates attended ; five passed;

eight failed.
