but the justified complaint of the learned President

refers to an abuse of long standing.

I hope that

the Bar Associations will take this matter into con

sideration. Everything which tends to keep, or

perhaps 1 should say, to make our equal rights of

audience in the Circuit Court a reality ought to be

studied by all our professional organisations with

jealous care.

May I take the opportunity to follow the example

of my distinguished predecessors in office by com

mending to your active support

the Solicitors'

Benevolent Association ?

Finally, let me say that it would be wearisome

were I to endeavour to deal with all the subjects

which have occupied your Council during the half-

year. Suffice it to say that no meeting passes without

many questions that vitally affect your interests

being discussed and action promptly taken where

possible. I would like, before closing, to pay tribute

to the exemplary attendance of country members,

and to the efficiency of our Secretary and the staff

generally which have gone far to lighten the burden

of an office which, much as I appreciate the con

fidence shown by my colleagues in electing me, I

took up with much apprehension and a lively sense

of my inadequacy to discharge it, as the members

deserve to have it discharged.

Mr. Desmond Moran addressed the meeting on

the inconvenience of the present arrangement of

the Law Sittings. The President stated that the

matter would receive the attention of the Council.

On the motion of Mr. Hayes, the Chairman

vacated the chair which was taken by Mr. Quirke,

Vice-President.

Mr. Hayes then proposed a vote of thanks to the

Chairman for his address and for his conduct at the

meeting which was carried with acclamation. The

President replied and the proceedings terminated.
