Training – MOT

SETTING UP FOR MOT TESTING

MOT SITE MANAGER TRAINING COURSE

Level 3 Award in MOT Test Centre Management

All new MOT Test Centre Managers are now required to complete

a Level 3 Award in MOT Test Centre Management. This is a lifetime

qualification, with no continuous professional development required.

The qualification will cover:

• Managing the legislative and compliance requirements of a

Vehicle Testing Station

• Dealing with customer service problems and complaints

• Developing and supervising staff within a test centre

• Test centre quality systems and audits.

During the 2-day course you will receive practical training

and will be assessed through an online multiple choice examination.

MOT NATIONAL TESTER TRAINING COURSE

Level 2 Award in MOT Testing

All new MOT testers are now required to complete the Level 2

Award in MOT Testing for their relevant vehicle class. This is a lifetime

qualification. You will be considered professionally competent for

the rest of your life, subject to completing an Annual Assessment to

maintain your testing status.

There are two Awards in MOT Testing available

depending on your vehicle class:

• Level 2 Award in MOT Testing (Classes 1 and 2)

• Level 2 Award in MOT Testing (Classes 4 and 7)

The Level 2 Award in MOT Testing includes:

• Safe working practices within Testing Centres

• Communicating with colleagues and customers

• How to manage professional development as an MOT tester

• How to carry out pre-test checks

• How to carry out the MOT test.

This 5-day course includes eight hours practical training.

You will complete an entire simulated, uninterrupted MOT test for

the relevant vehicle class in a training environment that meets the

DVSA’s requirements. There will be an externally set and marked

examination which will test the knowledge you have gained.

Before you can carry out MOT testing you need an MOT Manager

to run the test centre and an MOT Tester approved for the vehicle

classes you want to test. Both the MOT Manager and MOT Tester

must have passed their respective DVSA approved courses, which

are available through the Euro Academy.

MOT CPD ASSESSMENTS

Qualified MOT testers no longer need to attend a 5-year refresher

course. Instead, they must complete the new MOT annual training

and assessment to maintain their testing status. The Euro Academy/

IMI online learning module and assessment satisfies the DVSA

requirements. Simply purchase your login and password to access

a three-hour program and assessment – this is available for Motor

Cycle class 1 and 2 testers as well as class 3,4,5 and 7 vehicle testers.

All testers must complete their assessment by March 31st 2017

to remain qualified.
