Figures A-4a and A-4b show an example of product #5 (SPIFAN matrix Placebo Child Formula Powder). As shown
in Figure A-4b there are no significant peaks after 36 minutes as is shown in Synergy 1 or HP therefore it must belong
to the lowest average DP range.

Products containing maltodextrin with a high degree of polymerization may be difficult to differentiate from
inulin containing products. For example the product in A-9 contains maltodextrin (blue trace), but no fructan
material. It is overlaid with the HP standard (black trace) to demonstrate how they look different. Note how the
blue product trace containing maltodextrin stops short of the wash while the HP standard keeps going. One
must be vigilant to avoid a false identification in a case like this.
