Christmas
Came Early
Cliff Bryan received an unexpected visit and
gift in the week before Christmas.
Cliff, of West Mercia branch suffered a stroke
in 2013, whilst on holiday in America. During
his long hospitalisation he had visits and
assistance from members of Section USA.
Kevin Gordon, President of Section USA was
one such member.
In mid-December 2014, Kevin visited the UK to
attend the Arthur Troop Centenary celebrations
and won a special celebration cake in the
raffle. Before flying home he visited Cliff and
passed on the cake for Cliff to enjoy.
A touching story demonstrating the goodwill
and friendship which exists between members,
not just at Christmas but throughout the year.

New Friendship at Christmas
There wasn't any snow on the ground for
South Wales branch members during their
visit to the Christmas markets in Belgium,
but that didn’t prevent them and their
families from enjoying a superb event.
In fact,
they had such a good time they are now in
the process of cementing the friendship with
Mechelen branch by putting in place a Twinning
Agreement.
Branch Secretary Denis Hunt said,
“We were
met by two local IPA members, James
and Irene, who hosted a
wonderful meal in a small
local restaurant. As is usual
on such occasions, IPA
pennants and other items
were exchanged. James
presented our branch with
a replica police truncheon,
adorned with the local
police badge.”
The following days included
visits to the Christmas
markets in Antwerp and
Brussels. Many of the party
agreed that the market in
Mechelen, and the town itself, was in fact
more picturesque than those of the larger
cities. South Wales branch recommend other
IPA branches to pay Mechelen a visit as it has
a very active IPA branch with a large
membership. It is also a relatively easy town to
drive to - midway between Brussels and
Antwerp - with excellent restaurants of a very
high standard and the Novotel in the centre of
Mechelen makes a great base.
Impromptu
IPA
Meeting
Scott Patton, a Section USA member visited
the UK for the Arthur Troop Centenary
weekend in December 2014. Mike Vince, from
IPA Thames Valley branch, met up with him in
Birmingham just prior to his return to USA.
After friendly chat, Mike presented Scott with
an IPA memento and wished him a safe journey
home.
Scott is a retired
Sheriff from
Miami, Florida
and winced when
Mike mentioned
his liking of the
current TV show
here in UK –
CSI Miami.
