INDEXSumitomo
expansion
Work has begun on a new building in
Scottsville, increasing Sumitomo Electrical
Wiring Systems’ facilities in the area.
Sumitomo currently employs 194 people
in Scottsville.
Sumitomo will lease and occupy the $2.5
million warehouse, which will be owned
by the Allen County–Scottsville Industrial
Development Authority.
Matt Adams, general manager of general
affairs at Sumitomo, said the facility will
allow the company to move warehousing
from two other facilities, releasing floor
space for much-needed manufacturing
expansion. The company is benefitting
from the continued rise in the automotive
industry.
The new building will be used to receive
raw materials and house finished goods
pending shipping, Adams said.
New solar farm
in Hawaii
Pacific Business News reports that North
American wind and solar energy producer
NextEra Energy is planning to develop a
large-scale solar farm on Dole Food Co’s
land as part of a public-private partnership
with the state of Hawaii.
NextEra is among south Florida's largest
public companies, owning Florida Power
& Light Co and NextEra Energy Resources.
Hawaii governor Neil Abercrombie
confirmed that he is “requesting general
obligation funds to enable the state to
work with a renewable energy company
to purchase agricultural and conservation
lands [nearly 20,000acres] currentlyowned
by the Dole Co.” He added: “We need to
make this investment to secure these lands
so that they do not become a temptation
for development and urbanization.”
