Classic Sheepskins

Reliable quality from a responsible producer

Our sheepskins come from New Zealand,

where sheep farming is the main industry of

agriculture.

The skins are supplied to us by Classic

Sheepskins, a company founded by

Maurice Callaghan

in 1969.

The skins used for babies are carefully

selected with extreme care. Hair length and

diameter are defined precisely. They are

tanned according to the requirements of the

New Zealand Wool Board and they must be

treated to be permanently hygienic.

The factory is ISO 9001 certified, which

means that every step is under observation

and the entire operation is transparent and

certified.

In the tanning process are used alum and

chromium compounds. Chromium is mainly

used to improve the skins wash-ability. The

amount of chromium is very small compared

to the amount used by most manufacturers,

less than 1 g/liter. In the process is used

chrome 3 mined from nature, which is not

toxic and which binds the fiber to the protein

without leaving a trace. No formaldehyde is

used at any stage of the process.

The factory is a pioneer in developing new,

alternative tanning procedures, such as

natural air-drying in the sun of Hawkes Bay.

Maurice Callaghan has over the years become

our good friend; we meet every year and

improve the world together. We in Ruskovilla

have also visited New Zealand exploring the

different phases of production. There are

a surprising number of things in common

between us, even though we live on different

sides of the world. Our causes for concern are

e.g., environmental issues, as well as the many

producers who irresponsibly tan skins with

questionable methods.
