Arc welding machines
THE EWM Hightec Welding technology
and mechanisation centre, located in
Weinheim, Germany, is a wholly owned
subsidiary of EWM AG.
For more than 50 years EWM has
been specialising in the development
and production of high-performance arc
welding machines for professional use
in trade and industry. EWM Weinheim,
with its team of application engineers
and mechanisation specialists, offers
several solutions for mechanised
welding and MAG-orbital welding.
In addition to standard mechanisation
components, EWM Weinheim offers tai-
lored mechanisation solutions including
full support in the project planning
stage (technical consulting, mechanisa-
tion concepts, commissioning, training,
parameterisation and process optimisa-
tion).
The company’s philosophy is ‘all
from one hand’, and it can provide
EWM welding processes, experience
in welding and engineering, consulting
and support in every project stage,
tailored solutions fitted to the budget,
‘live’ presentation of the welding tests
and mechanisation solutions, and proof
of principle of the welding technology.
It can also supply technical training of
staff, at EWM Weinheim during pre-
commissioning and commissioning, and
process optimisation on-site.
Currently specialising in plant
engineering, vessel construction and
pipe construction, the challenges faced
include low welding speeds due to
the use of the TIG process (for safety
reasons), the welding of the filler and
cover passes with electrodes, and
manual welding, which may sometimes
be difficult at the
construction site.
EWM’s pipeSolution
welding process is
based on the coldArc
welding process, and
is designed to meet the
requirements of plant
engineering and pipe
construction.
The advantages over
conventional processes
are apparent both in
prefabrication and at
the rotating workpiece
or the construction site.
In conjunction with
the pipeTruck MAG
orbital system, root, filler and cover
passes can be welded in a mechanised
manner. This enables four times higher
welding speeds and deposition rates. At
the same time, quality can be improved
compared to vertical down welding.
Compared to manual welding, the
solution is claimed to provide precision,
reproducibility and evenness.
The automated method enables
X-ray-proof positional welding with
single-V butt weld preparation or
a U-weld with or without gap. This
means the method meets all essential
international standards.
In the standard area, the weld
preparation is bevelled on the
construction site or in prefabrication
using a straight separating cut and
an angle grinder. This may result in
uneven gaps during welding when the
pipes are joined. The ovality of pipes
of larger diameters in most cases
causes considerable misaligned edges
at the joint. These boundary conditions
were taken into account during the
development of the process.
The pipeSolution process enables
welding of an X-ray-proof root with
solid or metal cored wires, and welding
results without lack of fusion or porosity
despite gap tolerances of 3 to 5mm and
misaligned edges of up to 1.5mm.

Complete pipe packages
MAZUR Energy produces and supplies
materials with carefully selected steel
plants and organises the production
of pipes for applications as complete
packages within the power industry,
and refining and oil and gas industry.
Turnkey services include engineering,
fabrication, project management, heavy
logistics and consultancy for every
project.
The company offers production
and delivery of its own steel products,
in particular boiler pipes in grades
X10CrMoVNb9-1, X10CrWMoVNb9-2
and others working in high temperatures
(creep resistant).
The company’s range also includes
design of boiler parts, piping compo-
nents, T and Y fittings, and fabrication
and assembly of boiler and industrial
piping.
Mazur Energy also offers a wide
range of services, such as technical
consulting during agreement/con-
tract preparation for realisation of
delivery, production and assembly
for constant control/inspection of
fulfilment requirements. The company
manages inspection and control of
technology processes according to
agreement/contract in order to ensure
timely delivery, cost reduction and
final product quality compliant with
customers’ requirements.
Other services consist of tests and
diagnostics with final acceptances by
notified bodies and additional creep test
of creep-resistant materials (working
in high temperatures). Mazur Energy
provides free preliminary examinations
by portable SFM microscopy for pipeline
life assessment, in order to make a
decision about the necessity of repair,
modernisation or investment.
