Engineered solutions for the tube industry
EMMEDI designs and manufactures
customised induction systems and
solutions for the tube and pipe industry.
More than 1,000 units are in operation
worldwide and customers can now

The company is taking advantage
of new synergies with Ajax Tocco
Magnethermic,
an
experienced
manufacturer of induction heating
equipment, to offer a wide range of
products. The welding line includes
equipment for high reliability, easy
maintenance and simple design of
inductor coils. Solid state welders have
very compact cabinets and modular
MOSFET-based inverters. Vacuum tube
welders have been used by the tube
industry for decades, with robust design
and reliability, and are available with an
output frequency range of 1:1.3 or 1:2.
Contact welders are suitable for large
pipes with high-strength materials,
providing a high welding quality
with a considerable energy saving.
The automatic welding table is an
automatically adjustable support on
three axes for the welding head, which
allows the operator an accurate inductor
positioning directly from the welder
control desk, increasing fast and easy
production set-up. Emmedi has also
developed the Welding Management
System (WMS) software platform.
Installed in an industrial PC on the
control desk, WMS allows real-time
checking of all main welding functions,
and the memorising of all welding
parameters and events. Stored working
data can be used to repeat the best
welding performances or to analyse
events in the recipe database.
Seam annealing units are dedicated
to the normalisation of the heat affected
zone (HAZ) required to meet API
standards for oil and gas applications.
Independent heating units with individual
power control for each head grant
increased operational flexibility, and
the new linear coil with reduced width
allows the treatment of pipes from 30 to
660mm OD. Temperature management
is precise thanks to a closed loop PID
system that compares the requested set
point with the actual temperature read
by the pyrometer. Global control of the
complex system is managed through an
integrated management desk.
Full body annealing is a generic heating
process used for applications ranging
from API tube quench and tempering, to
oil and gas tube polyethylene coating,
construction tube painting, hardening,
bending and swaging. Emmedi systems
are fully customisable to meet production
requirements: designed with IGBT or
MOSFET inverters, with power range
from 30 to 3,000kW and temperature
from 60 to 1,200°C.

Bright annealing
Pipe bevelling solution from Cofim
COFIM Industrie is a supplier of pipe
bevelling solutions. Its machines are
equipped with a safety system and
full-function control box, and a quiet
motor when electric drive is used. The
machines use a cold cutting process
that does not affect the tube material in
the prepared zone, allowing any type of
welding to assemble the line.
The company states that using a
Cofim machine makes it significantly
easier for an operator to produce
welding preparations of any shape,
safely, rapidly and repetitively.
