CNC end-working of
tubes and pipes on
both sides
AS the requirements for single- and
double-sided end-working of tubes and
pipes increase, Arla’s new machines
offer more capabilities to realise chip
cutting processes of complex OD and
ID contours.
This end-working concept is used in
the automotive, petrochemical (oil and
gas), ship and offshore industries, and
also in industrial areas with challenging
machining jobs, for example when
manufacturing hydraulic cylinders,
piston rods and axles.
The Arla EMXSC-2 is a CNC-
controlled end-working machine for
the double-sided machining of work-
pieces with a maximum OD of 275mm
and a maximum workpiece length
of 2,500mm. The machine concept
is based on a solid frame with two
precise machining units,
including a concentric
work-holding technology.
All components are
perfectly aligned in order
to realise high accuracy
over the length.
The end-working concept comprises
a fixed workpiece and revolving tools.
All machining units are directly driven
by servomotors and are designed for
high torques and high performance.
In order to allow several machining
steps in sequence, the units are built
with integrated water-cooled motor
spindles and high-performance facing
head technology.
The machine has automatic tool
changing systems (ATC) on both
sides for ten complex tools (HSK
A63). Typical applications are OD and
ID turning, facing, tapping, bevelling,
threading, grooving, chamfering and
boring, in particular for the welding
end preparation and any other
manufacturing process of cylinders,
pipes and tubes within a single
clamp.
