Mozart Requiem and Haydn Cello

Concerto in C major (1st movement)

12th October 2014

This magnificent concert opened with the first

movement of Haydn’s

Cello Concerto

. The

soloist, Fifth Former Aaron Gruen,

demonstrated excellent technique and

performed with the musical intelligence of a

much older player. The St Edward’s Singers,

Chapel Choirs and a professional orchestra

then performed Mozart’s

Requiem

. The soloists

were former pupils Megan Baddeley, Rosalie

Warner, Benjamin Durrant and Edward Price

who all showed individual excellence but were

particularly well blended in the quartet

moments. The combined choirs packed the

stage and produced a thrilling sound. The

large audience was treated to an exciting

performance with some ambitious tempi

chosen by the conductor Neville Creed.
