Rowing

Pete Rudge, Master i/c Rowing

The year was a very positive one for the Boat Club. The senior girls had some great victories

at Bedford Star Regatta and, by reaching the second round at the prestigious Women’s

Henley Regatta, showed that they are capable of performing at an extremely high level.

On the boys’ side the season was dogged by injuries and illnesses but nevertheless they

performed very strongly at Henley and beat Lawrenceville, one of the best crews in the USA,

and the German school, Ratgymnasium Osnabruck, before losing to the eventual winners,

St Paul’s. The Fourth Form boys won the J15 eights event at Bedford Star Regatta and the

girls were also successful at the same regatta in a four. At the Reading Town Regatta both

squads won their fours’ event. The Shell boys’ A Octo reached the final at the National

Schools’ Regatta and finished 5th in the country, thus becoming the most successful Shell A

crew in the School’s history. The Shell girls’ A crew won several events and had a particularly

convincing victory at Reading Town Regatta. Tilly Catlin was selected to row for Great

Britain in a pair at the Coupe de La Jeunesse, the European Championships, while Hugo

Marsh was selected for the Great Britain Team at the Junior World Championships in Rio.
