Tom Hunter, Master i/c Sailing
The sailing club had a great year up at Farmoor, and beyond, with many new sailors taking
to the water for the first time and progressing through RYA Levels 1 and 2 while others
achieved advanced qualifications. Thomas Hayes was promoted to Head of Sailing and
succeeded in leading the team in regular friendly racing against Abingdon, Radley and
MCS. Tom had a good understanding of the Laser SB20 keelboat that we sail and gave
many of the newer sailors an excellent introduction into crewing on this high performance
boat. Special mention goes to Edward Tanner and Matthew Abell who both gained their
Instructor qualifications and James Colson Lake for achieving Assistant Instructor. James
raced with Oliver Ferneyhough at the Itchenor Schools National Sailing Regatta in an RS
Feva where they performed commendably, competing against some of the country’s best
junior sailors over two days of intense racing. It was a very productive year with huge
amounts of progress made by everyone involved and lots of goals to aim for in terms of
both RYA qualifications and racing experience.
