ALA YAROMINA

Dept. of Radiation Oncology (Maastro Lab), Grow - School for Oncology

and Developmental Biology, Maastricht University Medical Centre

Maastricht, The Netherlands

Ala Yaromina, a native of Belarus, studied environmental science

at the International Sakharov Environmental University in

Minsk. In 2003 she graduated from University College London

having attained the European

M.Sc

in Radiation Biology

under the directorship of Prof Klaus Trott. She studied for her

PhD research at the Technische Universität Dresden, Medical

Faculty, Department of Radiation Oncology, Germany, under

the supervision of Prof Michael Baumann and Prof Daniel Zips.

She investigated the impact of various pre-treatment parameters

of tumour microenvironment on radiation response in pre-

clinical models of cancer. After her PhD she continued working

at the OncoRay Center for Radiation Research in Oncology,

Dresden, focusing on radiation-induced changes in tumour

microenvironment and their association with radiotherapy

outcome as well as on predictive biomarkers.

In 2012 she joined the group of Prof Philippe Lambin at the

Department of Radiation Oncology (MAASTRO), Maastricht

University, The Netherlands, focusing on targeting of Carbonic

Anhydrase IX in tumours using novel drugs. Her latest research

project includes one of a kind pre-clinical studies testing

positron emission tomography (PET) based dose-painting

approaches, using state-of-the-art clinical imaging and

radiotherapy platforms.
