from the terrace is a beautifu l view o f the Sound,

H veen island, an d the Sw edish Coast. T he original

intention o f th e E stab lishm en t w as soon m ade su b ­

ordin ate to an other and w idely different p u rp o se ;

for thou gh it is still so u g h t b y som e suffering

patients, it is far m ore so by the lov ers o f pleasu re

for w hose a ttractio n v ario u s am usem ents are p ro ­

vided. T h e g ro u n d , tak en from the P a rk , w as a

g ra n t to the com pany by C hristian V III., to whose

taste and liberality the public are indebted for th e

n um ero u s new drives in the D eer P a rk , and for

th e prom en ad es on the bastion s o f the town and

citadel.
