Financial Disclosure 101

Financial Disclosure 101: An Introduction to

Financial Disclosure

A financial disclosure statement is a statement of personal financial

interests. Public officials who are required to file disclosure statements must

include information such as sources of income, sources of gifts, debtors,

creditors, and investments. Financial disclosure statements are not

campaign finance statements or election statements.

Filers are required to file each year and provide information for the complete

preceding

calendar year. In other words, a person who is required to file in

2014 will be filing a statement disclosing financial information for the

complete calendar year of 2013.

About 11,000 public officials and employees are required to file disclosure

statements each year.
