U.C.G.
There is a full course of lectures given in com
mercial law. Lectures are given each alternate year
on criminal law and practice and the law of evi
dence because they are subjects for the LL.B.
degree examination. They are not regular subjects
and the college enquire whether the Society wish
to have a regular annual course provided. We are
informed that about half a dozen solicitors'
apprentices take lectures in the aforementioned
subjects.
T.C.D.
Courses on criminal law and procedure and also
on the law of evidence are given. Both these
courses are of three terms duration and solicitors'
apprentices are entitled to attend them on a volun
tary basis on payment of the appropriate fee.
There is no course on commercial law and in
surance law but many of the topics touching on
these subjects are included in three term course
on the law of personal property.

DELAYS IN THE ACCOUNTANTS OFFICE
Normally, when a request for payment for monies
out of court is made payment is made, within 7
to 10 days of receipt of the request. In a large
number of cases, estimated at nearly 40 per cent,
of the total, requests have to be returned to the
applicants' solicitors for amendment to conform
with the rules of court. In such cases, of course,
date of payment is determined by the date on
which the request, properly completed, is relodged
with the accountant. Amendment of these forms,
either by correspondence or at the public counter
creates extra work for the accountant and his staff
and can, frequently, delay the process of dealing
with applications which conform in the first ins
tance.
Contrary to the belief of some practitioners
money lodged in court with the defence is not
placed on deposit account in the bank, as a re
quest for payment out may be received any time
after the plaintiff receives notice of such lodgment
and consequently no deposit interest may be
earned. The only monies which the Department
receives from the accountant's office are the fees
collected pursuant to Part IV of the Supreme and
High Court (Fees) Order 1966.
