ROAD TRAFFIC PROSECUTIONS

MINIMUM FEES.

Defence o f members o f Automobile Associa­

tion and Royal Irish Automobile Club

he

Council have adopted the following as the

proper scale o f costs to be charged by solicitors

defending prosecutions under the Road Traffic Acts

on the instructions o f the above-mentioned bodies,

which have been notified thereof by the Society

(a)

Where a solicitor is retained to defend a prose­

cution at a Court in the town where he carries on

his practice, a fee o f t\^o guineas, and when he is

retained to defend a prosecution in a Court situate

in a town where he does not carry on practice, a

fee of three guineas ;

(b)

the fees for defending a

second or subsequent cases on the same day at the

same Court should be the same as in the first case,

except where the defence arises out o f the same facts'

and is conducted on behalf o f the same defendant

as in the first case, in which event the fee for the

second and each subsequent case shall be one guinea j

(r) in cases of a serious nature or involving additional

work and responsibility, the above scale shall not

apply and a special fee should be required. Mem­

bers are requested to adhere to the prescribed scale

of fees.

the R.I.A.C. In other cases the minimum fees are

as stated in the Society’s Gazette o f April, 1949,

page 68, and November, 1949, page 26.

Solicitor, died at his

residence, 18 Sydney Avenue, Blackrock, on the

8th o f January, 1951.

Mr. Prentice served his apprenticeship with the

late Mr. blunt W. Hardman, Solicitor, 14 Moles-

worth Street, Dublin, was admitted in Easter

Sittings, 1913, and practised at 16 Lower O’Connell

Street as Senior Partner in the firm o f Messrs.

Matheson, Ormsby and Prentice.

The Solicitors’ Benevolent Association

The Association, which operates throughout the whole of Ireland, cares for Solicitors their

wives, widows and families who have fallen on hard times.

Last year over £1,300 was distributed in relief.

Additional subscriptions, donations and

bequests are urgently needed to continue and extend the Association’s work.

The active co-operation of the Profession in the Association’s good work is asked for and all

who are not members are urged to join without delay.
