W
he University of San Diego Women's
Swim Team is in its twelfth year ofcom–
petition, the last seven as members of
NCAA Division 1. During these twelve
years, Head Coach Gary Becker has produced
four Division II All-Americans. Without a
doubt, the swim program at USO stresses
quality.
The 1990-91 edition of the Toreras was, for
the most part, a young and highly talented
squad. The team was composed of 15 swim–
mers and three divers. The Toreras appeared
to be strongest in backstroke and breast–
stroke events. The backstrokers were led by
sophomores Tracie Childs and Jennifer Witt.
Junior Mary Bergen, last year's most valuable
swimmer, returns to anchor the breast–
strokers.
With a field of seven swimmers- its largest
contingent ever, the Toreras were strongest in
the distance events. Leading the way was
sophomore Susan Torrey. Susan was strong
in all freestyle events from 200 yards to 1,650
yards. She was also expected to be a factor in
the 200 yard butterfly.
