INDEXComcast Business is investing millions
of dollars in network enhancements
in Palm Beach County to expand
its high-speed fiber optic Ethernet
and Internet service options. The
new fiber-based Ethernet network is
capable of delivering speeds up to
10Gbps. These upgrades will support
the area’s thriving business climate,
which recently led Forbes Magazine
to name West Palm Beach as the
top city in Florida for business and
careers.
Access to higher bandwidths is
becoming essential for businesses
to operate smoothly and efficiently.
A Cisco study found that global IP
traffic has quadrupled in the past
five years and is expected to triple
in the next five.
Comcast's fiber-based Ethernet
network is ideal for business
operations that require higher
bandwidths to move high data
traffic such as video conferencing,
streaming, multiple users on a
Wi-Fi network as well as file sharing
and back-up and cloud-based
applications. In addition, this
network is capable of connecting
multiple locations of one company
as if they were in the same building.
As a standalone service provider,
Comcast’s fiber services can also
be used by businesses that need a
redundant or second network for
enhanced security and to ensure
file access, back-up and recovery in
the event of a natural disaster such
as a hurricane or power outage.

In December 2014 Allied Wire &
Cable’s 9
th
annual charity week
raised over $18,000 for the Humane
Society and the Make-A-Wish
Foundation.
Each year during charity week,
a percentage of all sales goes to
chosen causes. In 2014, half of the
total donation, about $9,000, went
to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, an
organization that works to support
and inspire hope in children with
life-threatening illnesses. Allied has
a long-standing relationship with
Make-A-Wish over the years, and is
proud to have been able to help
make many wishes come true.
Karen
Traten,
director
of
partnerships and communications
at Make-A-Wish, thanked Allied,
saying: “We appreciate your loyal
support of our mission. Without
supporters like you, we would cease
to exist as an organization. Your gift
does make an important, lifelong
impact on the children we serve.
Thank you.”
The other half of the total went to
the Humane Society, an animal
advocacy organization. The charity
and its affiliates give direct care to
over 100,000 animals each year.
When presented with the $9,000
donation, Sarah Speed, PA state
director of the Humane Society,
said: “We at the Humane Society of
the United States are so grateful for
the continued support of Allied Wire
and Cable. With AWC's support we
are cracking down on puppy mills,
putting an end to dogfighting and
working to ban tethering statewide.”
