Incidence and risk factors

• Rare disease

– Annual incidence: 1/100 000 (USA)

– Incidence is rising over the last 25 years

• 5 year survival: +/- 60%

• Risk factors:

– HPV (in 90% of the patients)

– HIV or HSV (secondary role in disease progression)

– Immune suppression (transplant recipients)

– Cigarette smoking (persistence HPV)
