13. Use the toothbrush and paste to gently clean the gums,
mucous membranes and tongue. Offer water and/or
mouthwash so that the patient can rinse their mouth
before replacing the dentures.
14. Insert the upper denture in the patient’s mouth and press
firmly, then insert the lower denture. Check that the
dentures are securely in place and comfortable.
15. If the patient desires, dentures can be stored in the
denture cup in cold water, instead of returning them
to the mouth. Label the cup and place in the patient’s
bedside table.
16. Return the patient to a comfortable position.
17. Remove used PPE/equipment and dispose of them in the
appropriate receptacle.
18. Perform hand hygiene.
19. Replace clean equipment in the appropriate storage area.
20. Document on the patient’s chart and report any abnormal
results to a senior nurse, medical officer or endorsed
nurse practitioner immediately.
