Iveco appoints new Tanzanian dealer
Iveco South Africa’s aim to be a major player in the commercial vehicles market has
been bolstered by the recent appointment of CMC Commercial Ltd as an authorised
Iveco commercial vehicle importer and dealer for Tanzania.
CMC Commercial Ltd has recently completed the construction of its new
dealership and service centre in Changombe, Dar es Salaam, conveniently
situated on the same site as the Ford and Jaguar Land Rover service centres of
its sister company, CMC Automobiles Limited. Further territory development is
planned in key locations around the country to ensure optimum coverage. The
company will offer sales, parts and service for Iveco commercial vehicles.
CMC Commercial Ltd’s Iveco dealership and service centre opened its doors
to the public in March this year with an official ceremony which was attended
by senior Iveco management, CMC’s management, trade representatives from
the Italian embassy, dignitaries from Dar es Salaam, as well as transporters
and other vehicle operators.
“Today is yet another significant landmark in the life of Iveco. We are pleased
to join hands with an established and highly respected group in this important
market. Iveco has a proud heritage with more than 150 years of experience as
a truly global organisation and we continue to expand our horizons,” says Brian
Steenkamp, Network Head SSA.
“We are pleased to be associated with Iveco, their product line-up is one
of the best, with built-in reliability and market leading developments. Their
products suit the needs of our progressive customer profile. The association
of the two brands, Iveco and CMC Commercial, each with a proud heritage,
provides a solid pillar of service to transport customers in Tanzania,” says Mike
Raath, National Commercial Manager at CMC Commercial Ltd.
“With the inclusion of Iveco in the CMC Commercial stable we have
completed our goals as a company in that we now offer a portfolio of high-
profile, respected brands of high quality vehicles, whether it is sales, service or
parts, which in the long term will create the required awareness in the market,”
adds Raath.

Single or double rear wheels for Hino’s 500 series
Hino South Africa now offers the choice of single
or double rear wheels on its 1322 four-wheel drive
model in the popular 500 Series. This follows
requests from operators for this option to suit a
variety of off-road applications including forestry,
farming, mining and construction, as well as the
telecommunications industry.
The new model also gets the benefit of being fitted
with a Euro 3 compliant engine instead of the previous
Euro 2 power unit. The fitment of this common rail
fuel injection system to the Hino J08E engine permits
the installation of the obligatory speed limiter now
required in South Africa. In the case of the Hino 1322
it will limit top speed to 80 km/h.
Bidfreight opts for SDLG
Babcock’s tailor-made aftersales service and reliable

were major deciding factors in Bidfreight Port
Operations’ recent purchase of two additional SDLG
wheeled loader machines from Babcock.
Bidfreight Port Operations (BPO) is one of the
largest providers of in-port logistics in South Africa
with operations in every commercial cargo port in the
country. The company offers integrated port operation
solutions to customers importing or exporting in
southern Africa. BPO previously purchased SDLG
L938L wheeled loaders from Babcock and cites the
first-class aftersales service received from Babcock as
one of the main reasons for returning to purchase an
additional two new SDLG machines.
