The AES group has appointed
Leapeetswe ‘Papi’ Molotsane
as nonexecutive director
to the board of AES South
Africa.
Molotsane’s role will be
to help identify strategic direction for continued growth. He
is an experienced corporate director, having been involved
in a wide range of industries ranging from logistics to manu-
facturing.
Starting out as a systems engineer for ISM (now IBMSouth
Africa), Molotsane worked for Eskom as a sales engineer
before being appointed marketing manager at Nampak
and eventually divisional general manager responsible for
Nampak’s Cape Town plant. He then moved to food services
(CEO of Fedics for four years) and subsequently Transnet,
where he was group executive of operations with oversight
responsibility for five divisions: Petronet, Port Operations,
Freight Dynamics, Metrorail and Transwerk (now Transnet
Engineering).
Appointed CEO of Telkom in 2005, Molotsane resigned in
2007 to develop his own business portfolio with investments
in telecommunications, water purification, solar energy and
microbrewing. He has consulted with listed companies and
managed Africa Commodities Group, a company sourcing
commodities primarily for the Asian market. He sits on the
boards of several companies. Molotsane holds bachelor’s
degrees from the University of Toledo in Ohio, USA, in indus-
trial engineering and business, and a master’s degree in
business science fromHood College, Maryland, USA. He also
successfully completed the prestigious Stanford University
Executive Programme, in 2001, forming a network of friends
and business connections that he feels confident will help
grow the AES group.
Married with one daughter, Molotsane’s interests include
hiking, reading, music and wildlife. He walked the Camino
with his wife in 2013 to celebrate their 25th wedding anni-
versary, and has also hiked the Great Wall of China.
Molotsane’s appointment to the AES board became ef-
fective in January of this year.
