New
connectivity
solution
OFS has launched its new SC crimp and
cleave connectivity solution for industrial
networks.
The rapid adoption of industrial ethernet
has led to new demands in factory
automation and industrial networking
applications that require the introduction
of
industrialised
communications
systems.
Fast (100Mb/sec) and Gigabit (1,000Mb/
sec) ethernet data rates demand higher
bandwidth and real-time, low-latency
communications.
The increasing use of intelligent
electronic devices, utility-grade rugged IP
routers, and ethernet switches is driving a
move to IP-based communications on the
production floor.
A high bandwidth, rugged and reliable
cabling solution is essential for industrial
networking as increased data rates are
adopted. OFS is offering graded index
HCS® (GiHCS) optical fibre in LSZH cable
construction and crimp and cleave SC
connectors.
Using the SC crimp and cleave hand
tools, technicians can quickly install
fibre connectors in industrial spaces,
and rapidly repair damaged optical
fibre cables without messy adhesives or
tedious polishing procedures.
The advantages of the new SC connectors
are said to include a wide operating
temperature range (-20ºC to +105ºC);
abrasion,
vibration
and
chemical
resistance; high tensile strength; and
compatibility with most common GBIC
transceivers.
