In the last decade, many multi-pass
drawing lines have replaced traditional
dies with micro rolling cassettes because
of the bene ts they provide in terms of
speed and output.
Until now, the disadvantage of such a
trend has been that, unlike dies, rolls
couldn’t be redressed in-house. The
regrinding facilities are generally located
at the premises of the roll or cassette
manufacturers. The entailed redressing
costs, the transportation charges and the
customs bureaucracy make the operation
inconvenient and the adoption of the
cassette technology less interesting from
an economical point of view.
Atomat, one of the major worldwide
producers of carbide rolls for cold wire
rolling since 1968, heeding repeated and
explicit customer demands, has nally
manufactured a low cost equipment
purposely conceived for in-house micro
rolls regrinding. This redressing package
can be easily installed in any roll-shop,
since it requires a very limited space.
Its design was based on the following
guidelines:

even when only two multi-pass lines
are equipped with micro-cassettes
Thanks to the above, the roll stock (and
its relevant capital costs) is signi cantly
reduced, the risk of roll shortage can
de nitively be eliminated and the total
roll life increases conspicuously because
the worn rolls can be reground into a
new pro le. The machine also gives the
possibility of producing in-house any
set of rolls starting from a small stock
of semi- nished rolls (ie rolls with blank
barrel).
Atomat is also a renowned and reliable
source for roll holders and carbide rolls.
The rolls are fully sintered in Italy by
one of Atomat’s subsidiaries, starting
from selected virgin powders (recycled
powders are never used) with suitable
tailored grades. They can be supplied fully
nished, with nal grooves already ground
to the proper size and strict tolerance, or
semi- nished, without the grooves which
can be ground directly on site according
to any speci c production needs.
