GENERAL NEWS
Year 9
It has been a very quick term for Year 9. The
students are really developing as a team and with
the new behaviour scheme students are taking full
advantage to support each other within lessons and
push each other to achieve their potential.
The College Council has new members; Isabella
Richardson and Nathan Hill are our new College
Council leaders and our representatives for the
whole school College Council.
Year 9 have been collecting their shoe boxes ready
for the Shoe Box Appeal, a massive well done to Mia
Breedon who completed the first one on her own.
On Friday 18th November we took 14 Year 9s to
take part in the ‘Child Comissioners Police Take Over
Challenge’. The students worked alongside police
officers and our school PCSO Lorraine Underwood
to find out what happens as a police officer in
Southampton. We looked through a real life case
study and students gave their thoughts as to how
they would be able to deal with the situation.
Miss Bishop’s role was to act as a police officer in
a ‘stop and search’ situation. The students then
tried to search each other.
Domino’s provided the
lunch for free and then
the students met an ARV
officer, looking through all
his weapons. After that a
dog handler turned up and
we watched him search for
people and belongings - it
was simply incredible. The
students then went into
a police van and felt what
it was like to be put into
the back and locked away.
All of the students were well behaved and really
enjoyed their day. It was an honour to be asked
to join in with such a fantastic opportunity. Please
look at the photos on Twitter from the hashtag
#takeoverchallenge.
On the 21st November we all enjoyed the careers
festival, where students were able to take part in
unique lessons to explore their options for next
year.
Next term we will be starting the options process
and I would like to invite you to our Pathways
Evening on the 16th February 2017. There will be an
opportunity to talk to teachers about courses and
decide with your child what options they would like
to take next year.
I wish you a very happy, healthy break and look
forward to welcoming all students back in 2017!

We have been working hard at our reading skills and have been enjoying silently reading books
every Thursday morning! A special mention goes to both John Winterburn and Konur Bilgic for their
achievement points this term. We have also started to collect boxes to send to Africa and are really
enjoying the quiz done on Fridays! Special mention goes to Callum Totten for winning the quiz twice in a
row (without cheating!) Well done Branson JS! Keep up the great work! Mr Spencer.

We have been working really hard to attain achievement points within the last few weeks and are doing
really well so far. Hannah Grave has shown her support for the week of Remembrance by wearing her
Cadet uniform to school and also participated in the parade on the 11th of November. We have also
welcomed Jazz Dewison to our tutor group and she has settled in well, making a large number of friends
within the group. As a tutor group, we are really enjoying the quiz that we do every Thursday morning.
The students work really well as a team to get as many points as possible!
