Joy

you could definitely see it this

way, but things didn’t happen

like that, that I had asked

Ange, and this wasn’t the first

time, to loan me money and

that Ange was a friend. This

was another way to respond

to her: even if I asked Ange

to go settle a score with

Rédoine, I wouldn’t have had

to pay him for it. Because,

precisely, he was a friend.

The doctor just got up to the

stand and I see him again

announcing the death of my

mom, I remember that he

used the word “deceased”

and that I had told myself that

that was not a good word. It

was too violent of a word,

there were a lot of other ones

he could’ve used. The judge

of the court thanked him for

being available insisting on his

prestigious titles and, after a

few reminders of dates, asks

him what he remembers

about me.

The doctor responds that he

sees a considerable amount

of patients and families,

over a large number of

years, and I ask myself if he

clearly remembers me. He

adds that it seems to him

that I was his interlocutor

and that I was probably the

best for it because the other

members of the family were

too affected. I search for my

father’s eyes without finding

him, his eyes are lowered,

maybe even closed. The

judge asked logically to the

doctor if, in his opinion, I

was less bothered than the

others, than my father or my

brother for example.

The doctor responds that he

said nothing of that sort, that

he cannot decide on that and

repeats that he has seen a lot

of patients and their families
