Investigate Brazil’s Wildlife

Introduce your classmates to some of the strange and fascinating animals that can be

found in Brazil. Describe their appearance, eating habits, and behavior. Find or draw

pictures.

Flag Poster

Make your own flag representing Brazil. Pick a piece of colored construction paper as

your background. Then try to think of at least three things that represent Brazil, and

paste them into the middle of your flag. You can create those out of construction paper,

cut them out of a magazine, or print them off the Internet. Next, find a picture of the

real flag of Brazil. Create a copy of that flag using construction paper and other materi-

als. Paste both finished flags onto a large piece of white poster board so you can

compare them. Leave space for a page beneath the flags. Then write a page explaining

why you chose the shapes for your flag and what the differences are between your flag

and the real one. Try to find out the history behind the flag of Brazil and include that

in your report. Paste your finished report on the poster board underneath the two

flags. Hang the finished poster on a wall in your classroom for everyone to see.

Short Reports

In one-page reports, answer these questions:

• What makes an area a rain forest?

• Where was the Portuguese Empire and when did it exist?

• What do the precious stones that come from Brazil look like?

• Who were the Jesuit priests?

• How did Brasília become the capital of Brazil?
