New
Police Charity
Cornwall Police officers are assisting Superintendent Ian DRUMMOND-SMITH
(the visionary
behind the project) to create a new Police charity.
This ambitious proposal has been agreed by the Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall Police
and the Police federation and has a designated committee overseeing the process.
This new Cornwall based charity is called KRESLU (Cornish word for Police) and its aims are to:
•
Support the entire “Police family” in the Duchy. (Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly) which
includes Police Officers, Special Constables, Police staff including PCSOs and Detention
Officers.
•
To support anyone from the above mentioned group who has been injured (either Physically
or psychologically) in the execution of their duty ANYWHERE in the world.
•
To support the Police family based outside of Cornwall who are injured in the execution of
their duty within Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly would also be eligible for assistance.
•
Crucially (perhaps) is officers do not need to be a member and there are no subscription
fees to pay.
An example of an hypothetical scenario where KRESLU would hope to offer assistance would be:
•
A Cornwall based Officer who (on or off duty) whilst in London (for example) is injured
intervening in an incident (for example a street robbery).
•
A London based Officer who (on or off duty) whilst in Cornwall is injured whilst intervening
in an incident (for example apprehending a suspect).
Finally, in a bid to create some revenue for this new charity we are to hold a summer ball
on 17th September 2016.
The Fair Arm
of the Law
2015 celebrated the centenary of the British
Policewomen and last year a number of
conferences were held around the Force area to
commemorate that significant anniversary.
Simon Dell was invited by the Women in Policing
Network to give some historical presentations
about the creation of the policewomen. His new
book “The Fair Arm of the Law” is now published
and available for purchase. “This is the story
of the Westcountry’s Policewomen – a story
which is impossible to tell without looking at
the remarkable national picture which was born
from the Suffragette Movement and the first paid
policewomen of 1915.
This small account celebrates
that century and the women
who changed the history of
the police service for ever.”
Copies are available from
Simon’s website at
www.simondell.co.ukpriced at £7.99 inc p&p.
In the Darkest
of Shadows
In the Darkest of Shadows by Richard Allen, is
the fourth in the
Superintendent Mark Faraday
Collection
, which finds
Faraday, together with DCI
Kay Yin, investigating one
body with two identities,
where deception and
duplicity are common place
and truth an inconvenience
and an illusion.
