World’s thinnest communication cable?
LS Cable & System has developed what it
believes to be the world’s thinnest 10Gbps
LAN cable. With an outer diameter of 7mm,
compared to 7.2mm currently available,
the cable is said to be lightweight, easy to
install and save installation space.
In general, LANcables are divided according
to category. CAT5 (100Mbps transmission)
or CAT5E (400Mbps transmission) are widely
used in normal households. Thenewproduct
is a CAT6A, capable of transmitting data at
up to 10Gbps.
With the ability to stably and swiftly transmit
massive amounts of data, the demand
for this product is anticipated from data
centers, research labs, airports and medical
facilities. Accordingly, LS Cable & System
plans to accelerate its entry into overseas
markets in China and Europe as well as
targeting major data centers and facilities
in Korea.
“In general, a network cabling systemneeds
to be operated for 20 to 25 years. Customers
can cut down on their investment cost
in terms of management and operation
by using the 10Gbps level LAN cable,”
explained LS Cable & System senior vice
president Hyeongwon Kim (domestic
communication/industrial cable business).
