Redux™ wave spring, torsion spring and,

more recently, extension spring designs,”

said Chris Petts, MD of Lee Spring. “Metric is

increasingly becoming an industry standard

as a result of globalization.”

Lee Spring manufactures and supplies

springs and fasteners to a wide range of

industry sectors, in particular for numerous

medical applications, where reliability and

precision are essential. The springs are

used in pharmaceutical delivery systems

such as syringes, intravenous valve controls

and automated drug control, as well as

medical and surgical devices such as

staple guns, catheter valves and anesthetic

infusion, and all conform to the stringent

quality requirement of medical device and

pharmaceutical customers.

At the other end of the fastener spectrum,

Lee Spring recently supplied extension

springs for the restoration of a Sopwith

Dolphin First World War aircraft.

Cut and measured

UK's Spectrum Technologies PLC has

introduced Nova MaX, a precision measure

and cut system for large gauge wire and

cable for aerospace, defense and other

industries as part of the production process

for complex electrical wire harnesses. MaX

will accurately measure and cut to length

wire and cable with outside diameters up

to 15mm.

A heat shrink sleeve printer and a label

printer can be integrated with MaX to

create a complete solution for preparing

and identifying cut-to-length wire and

cables that cannot be processed on a

laser or other wire marking system. Labels

and sleeves can be generated in parallel

as the wire is cut to length. Wires may be

de-reeled from a single de-reeler or wire

tree, fed through MaX, and collected in

a motorized coiling pan after processing.

The pneumatic shear ensures clean cutting

of large gauge cables and a controlled

acceleration and wire pull mechanism

maintains high length accuracy.

The control system is based on Spectrum’s

proprietary CAPRIS Nova software and is

very simple to use. The ability to download

job files for processing on MaX is a key

feature, enabling operators to transfer job

files rapidly and easily and to select and

process jobs without the need to enter

details of each wire.
